Headway Highland - Supporting People Affected by Brain Injury
Headway Highland is a local charity set up to support people living with a brain injury and their carers/family members. We are affiliated to Headway, the brain Injury association.
Headway Highland runs support groups throughout the Highlands and offers access to a free acredited counselling service. We also signpost to other organisations and services as well as produce a quarterly newsletter.
The main focus of our support groups is on social activites and we aim to provide these in a warm, relaxed and friendly environment. You could be taking part in arts and crafts, board games, table tennis, bowling, quiz's or just having a chat over a tea/coffee. We sometimes provide an educational element to our groups where we may discuss a topic related to brain injury, for example brain fatigue. We invite guest speakers to deliver a talk/presentation to group members from time to time on a topic that is of interest to the group.
We regularly meet as a group in the same venue but will occasionaly take part in activities at different locations. For example, we may visit a museum/art gallery, activity centre or go bowling.
Regular feedback is taken from group members to identify what activities or events they would like to participate in. All groups are facilitated by the Development worker or a Volunteer.
